Book Review - Return of the King

Topic: Reviews

I have read the "Return of the King" by JRR Tolkien. It is the last part of the trilogy of Lord of the Rings. The first two parts called "Lord of the Rings" and "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers". The action takes place in a fantasy world but the end of the book mentioned the early 1400s. In order to understand the plot, I think you have to read all three so I'll briefly describe the first two books.

The main characters in the books, part of the Brotherhood, are:

Frodo is a shy and valiant halvlängdsman, "Hobbit", which is the ring carrier and from the green country Shire.

Pippin is an eager and cheerful hobbit and cousin Frodo.

Merry the hobbit and friend of Pepin.

Sam, who is also a hobbit, Frodo's friend and squire. He is good at cultivating.

Legolas is one elf who likes to sing and be in the woods.

Aragorn is a man from the north, heir to the throne of Gondor. He often wander in the wilderness.

Gimli is a dwarf from the mines and is rough.

Gandalf is a magician who is secretive and a wise man who usually speak in riddles.

Boromir is a man and the son of the nation butler of Gondor.

"Lord of the Rings" is about Frodo Baggins inherits almost everything from his uncle Bilbo and he also inherits a ring. The Wizard Gandalf the Grey will that this ring is the only enemy ring. The forged Mordor of Sauron. He also gave nine rings for large kings but he betrayed them and they became to ring chosen markets. Frodo must escape with their friends away from hobernas Country "the Shire", chased by ringvåldnaderna. In Bri hits the Strider whose real name is Aragorn. He leads them through the wilderness to the elves valley "Rivendell". Where it is determined that Frodo will be the ring bearer and be instructed to try to destroy the Ring in Mordor. Where it can only be destroyed. He gets eight companions who will ring brotherhood. Merry, Pippin, Sam, Gimli, Aragorn, Legolas, Boromir and Gandalf. They come to the Mines of Moria, where Gandalf meets a ghost from the shadows and die. The other continues to Lot Loriens forests where they receive gifts of Queen Galadriel. Brotherhood get boats to travel with. Boromir becomes possessed by the ring of power and it will be his downfall. Merry and Pippin are captured by the enemy and dragged towards Isengard. Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli follow them to save his two friends while Frodo and Sam continue to Mordor.

The second part is about how Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli chasing the enemy and how Merry and Pippin manages to escape into Fangorns forest where they meet Ents. It is a tree folks wanting revenge against Isengard for their fields a lot of trees in their forest. Aragorn and the other two encounters Gandalf returned from the dead, and together they ride to Rohan and frees the king from an enchantment. The enemy attacks Rohan lose. One night Pippin looks into one of the seven Vision rocks and see horrible things as Gandalf takes him to Gondor.

Meanwhile wanders Sam and Frodo in the hills and get lost, but with the help of Gollum who at one time had the ring in his possession, they will come to the Black Gate. But it was impossible to get in the way so they headed to a secret trail of Gollum, but which betrays them to Honmonstret. It is a giant spider that gives Frodo a stab in the neck. He is captured by Orcs. Sam learns that Frodo is not dead but only poisoned.

In the third and final part Sam rescues him and together they wander through Mordor parched land toward Mount Doom is a volcano. Rohan ride for Gondor to help them in the war, but the king is killed on the plain. Meanwhile Pippin enters the service of the nation butler, who tries to take her and her son's life by burning at a kungabål. Only his son survives.

Sagebrush men challenging black gates to the enemy's attention will be removed from the ring wearer. The success and although it is a heavy burden and the difficult terrain and thirst rips in them, Frodo and Sam in any way to their destination in order to meet the Gollum again. Ring power was too powerful for Frodo as he proclaimed it to her and put it on your finger. Then he became invisible as you get when you put it on and Sauron saw him. But Gollum bit of him the invisible finger and Frodo became visible again. Just as Gollum would see enough of his treasure, he took a step too far back and dropped the ring into the lava. Then perished Sauron and his country turned into a sea of lava. Frodo and Sam were rescued by eagles and after a long time of good fortune came our four Hobbits back to the Shire, to shocked to find it destroyed by the vengeance of Isengard. All trees were chopped down and a lot of tough new rules to meet them instead of a beautiful peaceful country. But in the end after a big battle so it was a happy ending. Sam marries and grow new trees by using Galadriel's gift. Frodo sails away across the sea with all other ring bearer.

I thought the book was good for it described the landscape as well so you had images in his head. One could easily empathize with the act and sometimes feel sorry for the protagonists. I recommend this book because it has quite a number of strong messages, which will be forced to flee their homes to be in danger in even greater peril, and to leave their friends. In the end Tolkien describing how horrible it can be to be without water for a parched land with a heavy burden. I also think Tolkien wanted to tell you how hard some people can master his will and resist the temptation of Power. The biggest message I believe is just how much can happen in a big war and that it can affect innocent if you do not help each other.

John Ronald Reuel Tolkien was born in South Africa in 1892 and died in 1973, that is to say that he was 81 years old. He grew up in England and became professor of Old English and English literature at Oxford. In 1937 came the book of The Hobbit, which is about how Bilbo got hold of the ring of Gollum. Tolkien's fantasy world inspired by Nordic and Germanic myths and he wrote "The Lord of the Rings" which was published 1954-1956.

Recention: Thousand Times Stronger

Mirjana Krisanovic 9D:
I read a book called "A Thousand Times Stronger," which was written by Christina Herrström.
The action took place in a school setting in the present day. The book was about the confident Saga, which came to a regular ninth grade, in Sweden. She had grown up on her father's boat and traveled around the world. This meant that she had seen many different cultures and ways of life, from different perspectives. She had good confidence and dared to say exactly what she thought.
The class she came to was, like so many other classes in the world, the group distributed. There was the tough, who enjoyed being the center and there were timid nerds. Some had better status and had more confidence to the teachers, who always stood on the boys' side. They did not care if the guys were rowdy in class and had favorite pupils. The girls got used to this unfair treatment and accepted the situation. View school work »
