If you have seen "Children of Noisy Village" and "Emil", you have also seen a red house. The color you paint these classic red house comes from

Falu copper mine.

It is said that there was a Bock named Kari who booked into the soil with their horns and came home to their owners with red horns whereupon it was discovered Falun red paint. The color is documented environmentally friendly and have normal weather, a preserving effect on the wood. Be careful not to lean against a house painted with Falu red paint where the paint may run even when it is dry.

Fet-Mats

On December 2, 1719 began to break ore in one part of the mine which has been unused for a long time. Suddenly appeared a corpse that could not been there long because the body was still soft. There was great excitement but no one recognized the dead man. But when an old woman named Margaret heard about this, she realized that it must be Mats. Mats was her fiance but disappeared without trace from her 42 years ago. Mats had thus suffered from a race and kopparvitriolen had preserved the body.

Offer / Travel

The easiest way (unless you count the car) to get to the Falun is by bus or train.

It is easy to book and pay for his ticket on SJ's website. www.sj.se. A 2nd class ticket for a youth up to 19 round trip from Stockholm C to Falun C costs SEK 190 if you book at least one month in advance. The train trip takes about 2 hours and 45 minutes.

One can take a guided tour that takes 1 hour and starts at 14.00 each weekday and 12:00 on weekends. There are tours both above and below ground. You can book guided tours in both English and Swedish and many other languages.

During the tour you get to know what mine looked like through the ages and number of unpleasant incidents that happened.

One can also go above ground around the mine on their own and read to the information available on signage.

On holidays and at other times, the children's mine open with a treasure hunt in the mine for the child and family

Sturdy shoes or boots are recommended in the mine. Helmet and rain cape can be borrowed.

Eating

The Falun copper mine, there are several options if you are hungry.

On Geschwornergården you can get traditional Swedish food with a modern twist. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner. The lunch will cost 80 crowns, including bread, beverage, salad, coffee and cake. There are also vegetarian options.

Gjuthuset cafe offers hot panini, sandwiches, pastries, waffles, cinnamon rolls, ice cream and much more. If weather permits you can sit outside.

Tzatziki is called a restaurant inside the Falun that are open until 23:00 on Fridays and Saturdays and at 22:00 the other days. It takes about 20 minutes to walk to restaurants from the Scandic hotel.
