Uranus, Neptune and Pluto is the solar system's outermost planets (of the currently known).
With the naked eye can only see Uranus, the other is for low light. These basement takes a long time to go around the sun. Uranus is the planet of the three closest to the Earth. It has a diameter of about 51 000 km, ie about four times that of Earth.
The surface temperature never exceeds -190 degrees Celsius, and all the ammonia is frozen out of its atmosphere, but methane can be detected using the spectroscope. The surface is not fixed.
It is not known with certainty anything about its internal structure, but Uranus is similar to Jupiter and Saturn over the earth. Saturn's distance to Earth is never less than 2.58 billion km, and its orbital period is 84 years.
The discovery of Uranus is an exciting story.
It was the first planet that was discovered after they were known in antiquity.
In 1757 moved professional musician William Herschel from Hanover to England. He soon became interested in astronomy, and in the short time he built his own reflecting telescope. He managed to produce unusually good instrument, and with them he began to explore the heavens.
In March 1781, when he was about to map a part of the sky using a 15 cm mirror, he noticed an object that appeared to have a small disc. He studied there for several consecutive nights, saw that it was above the background by fixed stars and concluded that it was a comet.
An understandable mistake, since comets often seem to have a small slice when viewing them through telescopes.
As the months passed, however, it is increasingly clear that the object's path was not the lengthy path of a comet but more like a planetary orbit.
Once he realized it was a new planet he had discovered, there was great excitement.
Herschel wanted to call the new planet Geurgium Sidus (George's Star) after King George III, who also came from Hanover. But international opinion wanted to name it after the classical gods and goddesses, who lent their name to the other planets, and Herschel was voted down.
The planet was Uranus, which is the name of the Roman sky god. You can see Uranus with the naked eye, but it just looks like a tiny star and the fact is that nobody seems to have noticed it before Herscel.
When Uranus March 10, 1977 passed in front of a star, it was found, by studying the star's light variations before and after the passage, that the planet was surrounded by a ring system.
There are five, possibly six rings. The rings are much narrower than Saturn's rings, but they are probably of the same nature.
Uranus has five moons. The most recently discovered is Miranda. Moons orbits around the planet is not circular as in other planets, but nearly oval.
